Rammstein – Heavy Metal Provocateurs – free content

You might have never seen a show of this German Hard Rock / Gothic / Heavy Metal band – nor have I. Their stage performances are a display of fire, explosions and deep dark industrial impressions accompanied by heavy accords. The highly successful band is internationally recognized for its very distinct style, as well as pointy, very provocative German lyrics. I usually do not listen to this kind of “music”, but having seen some YouTube live stage performances, I somehow became intrigued by the – at least for me – unbelievable darkness of their shows and videos. Live fire and real explosions that light up a generally fairly dim lit stage. The stage seems to be more subterranean rather than above ground and transmits a diabolical vibe. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, an American Music critic of ALLMusic once commented that “their blend of industrial noise, grinding metal guitars, and operatic vocals is staggeringly powerful“.

As already stated in my MTV article, contemporary “music” is sounding more like the background noise of heavy industrial production facilities – Rammstein’s music fits right into that description. For that reason, I have been out on the hunt for their first concert time and date. The widely accessible date was no problem to find, but I could not find the exact start time of their first concert, which apparently drew a crowd of 15 fans. Since I could not find any indication for the start time, I’m left with creating a midday horoscope of the premiering young Rammsteiners.

What is so remarkable, aside of the easy astrological connection, that Rammstein just by name is heavily Mars accentuated. Rammstein – “the ramming stone” (Mars-Saturn actually). The band originally named the band after a town, where in the late eighties a tragic airshow disaster happened – usually those kinds of tragic incidents have Mars dominated constellations as well.

Rammstein – day of first concert

Clearly, the affection to fire and explosions, which the leader of the group, Till Lindeman, especially displays, clearly points to the characteristics of that fiery star sign. The chart of the day of the premiere has the Sun in Aries which at that point does not surprise. Adding to all that fiery content – the disposition of the Sun is at a point indicating that not all the Martian energy contained in the chart is used to exert the figuration, so the energy then turns against the tissue – in this case the social fabric. In that same kind of context, the position of Mars (the planet of Aries) is just by fractions of a degree close to the starting point of the Zodiac – zero-degree Aries, which is mainly about energy and the void, a not yet materialized movement. This point of the zodiacal evolution process, the first moment of the evolutionary process, has not yet developed any form of social behaviours or respectful comportment and with that we could perceive it as untamed, rude, rough and without any scruples. It is impulsive, aggressive and provocative. And I believe all attributes fit particularly to the actions and lyrics of the group. Mars just loves to break up social encrusted and compensated behavioral patterns.

With all that being said, it does not surprise that the group with many of their songs targets controversial and taboo subjects such as: sadomasochism, homosexuality, incest, pedophilia, necrophilia, pyromania, religion, sexual violence and cannibalism. In Martian fashion they uncover by putting their fingers into societal wounds. They take whatever subject needs to be named and called out. There is no subject taboo for the group and understandably, that makes them unpleasant for many. In short, they are provocateurs

The lyrics of the chants put any “moral” individual into an uncomfortable state. Some of their songs were even by the German State considered unsuitable for minors. Additionally, the group has even been arrested for public indecency. Clearly, disrupting and provoking – not conforming to a social norm – is Mars in its pure culture.

The content of house 6 and the DC (Uranus) which is connected with the Sun and the Moon make it clear that all this time content leaves a shocking impression that perplexes any new viewer and listener.

As already mentioned above: the group originally named themselves after the airshow disaster of Ramstein (place just with one ‘M’ not like the band’s name), where in Aug 1988 three planes of the Italian air force display team collided in midair, three pilots as well as 67 spectators died and over 300 people sustained serious injuries from the fire and explosion of the crashing planes. The Mars of that airshow disaster horoscope is right opposite to the Sun of the Band’s premiere day chart – coincidence or not – from my point of view it is quite telling since the group apparently had to do some back paddling to distance itself and clear their name from any connection to the airshow disaster.

In general, established societies do not like Martian energies, which expose their social fabric and shortcomings and leave them vulnerable. In Rammstein’s case, the band and their songs have been named many times as the scapegoat for incomprehensible actions of alleged fans (e.g., Columbine high school massacre, far right movement, ….). Many of those claims are unsubstantiated. Societies are easy to point fingers – and the clearing, revealing forces of Mars are an easy target to pick. Groups or societies are cohesive only to a certain extent, but at a point they always unite – when they want to get rid of uncomfortable disruptors and shun provoking forces, even if they are the ones pointing towards the bad state of their affairs.

“When I was an adolescent, I was obsessed with having many commercial things, cars, clothes, stupid things. Now that I have all that, I understand that the superfluous things can turn to you into a very stupid idiot-type. In East Germany there were very few things, but there was also a feeling of solidarity that no longer exists. Now we are up to the neck in consumption, the ego, the individualism. Now before friendship, it is merchandise.” – Till Lindemann, Rammstein
